This morning I wanted to water the garden and trees. I haven't been outside in the yard since we picked the tomatoes on Thursday. I'm supposed to stay out of the heat. It's hot here. But we went out as soon as we got up and picked tomatoes and I watered everything. It was hot by the time we finished.
Looking at the tomatoes dr said we'd get about 70. We filled one basket and most of another. When we counted them, there were -------72. So, between what we picked on Thursday and what we picked today we have picked 160 tomatoes. I gave about 40 away to our neighbors. I may give them some of these but in a bit, after I've finished "resting" I'm going to cut some up and cook them and squash them through the sieve thingie and make sauce. Sauce doesn't take as much room in the freezer as does chunks. We only have 14 tomato plants and I'm guessing we'll get about another 100 tomatoes? But, I don't count very well or maybe that's I don't guess very well. Whatever! With the heat I didn't expect much out of 14 plants but maybe growing them through the black plastic and an inch of mulch helped keep them moist. I do have to water about every other day. This past week the only water they got was the rain that I missed on Tuesday.

There is just one problem with making sauce. I didn't plant tomatoes for sauce. I was only hoping for salad tomatoes for the summer months. I only planted the 14 and they weren't extra meaty ones for sauce. Today we chopped and cooked and smashed the two baskets from Thursday (after giving about half to the neighbors.) They were pretty watery so we cooked the juice down until it started to thicken. It's still a bit soupy but if I use it for soup and cooked stuff it will be okay. I was needing a rest and the kitchen was getting hot despite the a/c.
We still have about 75 tomatoes but tomorrow is another day.

We had a poster from that movie. dr says that movie won an award for being the worst movie ever filmed. He has seen it and he agrees with that.

Dooley, maybe some of your neighbors would have some tomatoes to share with you, just ask if they have any paste ones. Lots of times we have things that we don't realize others could use and it goes to waste. Especially if that person is already giving away tomatoes :)
