You just can not turn your back on the garden this time of year. I went out this morning to check the birdfeeders, pot the Piggyback plant for the bathroom and get the Safflower seeds started and saw a couple of new blooms opened. Then promptly forgot to go back for pictures, got started on cleaning out yet more junque from my craft room closet. By the time I remembered the pictures this had happened and this is just half of the plant that is blooming, there are dozens more buds just waiting. Tomorrow I will probably be able to add pictures of even more blooms.
I bet my hummingbirds would like that plant. I will have to look for one. I have a place to put it too if it doesn't mind part shade. Dooley
Goodness, what would I do with a digital camera :-D Just took a full view picture of the vine. It is growing on a wood ladder, the kind you see leaning against adobe buildings out in Santa Fe, NM and covers the bathroom window. The ladder is a 6 feet tall and the vine is starting to climb the TV antenna too. Trimming will have to wait until after it blooms. Dooley, this one is on the east wall and gets full morning sun until about 11 then is in shade the rest of the day so I wouldn't think you would have any trouble with it.
They are something like 2nd cousins once removed :-D Dragon Lady Cross Vine http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/58823/ Trumpet Vine http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/644/index.html same family but different Genus and Species. And mine is easily controlled with the cutters after blooming.
Wow, what a beaut. Yours is much oranger than mine. Mine is native to here and I just love it. The leaves stay on it all winter and turn a dull red. Mine is a monster 30 footer. It will bloom here before the hummers get back. Everyone should have this vine!
DragonLady Cross Vine - Update The Cross vine is at it's peak in blooms...and still no hummingbirds. :'(
