My show was not yet done, when the evenin' had begun --
but I had to go on one ear anyway.
I knew the clock would chime when I had to rise 'n shine
and be on the road before the break of day.

The cock crowed really early, but still I had to hurry
in order to be ready for my ride.
A quick washing at the sink, then a cuppa tea to drink
and I was off into the cold that froze my hide.

There were errands to be done, which weren't alotta fun
and I had to stand out in that wind most dire.
With all the chores completed, we found ourselves then seated
all nice and warm and cozy by Auntie's fire.

The biks and tea were tasty, and not a crumble went to wastey
As I sat and warmed myself in her abode.
We chatted and we laughed about the present and the past
'til it was time to put my foot out in the road.

We drove roads small and narrow, through fields frozen to the marrow,
where everything was covered with a hoary frost.
We were looking for the pine wood where the thickly-planted trees stood
...and if you left the trails you'd quickly become lost.

Whilst walking on the trail, where the piney needles fell
a light went off and hung above my head.
I'll have a few of these--rusty needles 'n fallen leaves
To spread around my planted blueb'ry bed.

I wanted a fresh nose-- ach, but you know how it goes--
The body cools so quickly with the setting sun.
So my walkabout was quick and I cast aside my stick
For my core was cold, so younguns I was done!

The road was long and sandy and I wasn't fine and dandy
as my toes and fingers were burning like the dickens.
A day out's always fine, to do fun things and dine,
but I longed for my own food with all the fixin's .

Oh, one final thing to show, before I up 'n go,
and that's what's in a bag closed tight as tight can be.
Like a good and proper lad, I put the green ones in I had
and now they've turned quite red as you can plainly see.

What a fun day you did relate and the poetry is great,
Now you have me thinking in rhyme but that will wear off in time,... I hope.

Love the photos too, I would love to take a walk down the road in the first one.

What a multi-talented gardener you are.
Not only do you take us on tour, you grace us with beautiful poetry.
I feel honoured to be in the company of a poet, even when I did not know it. :-D

That was a great trip you took us on Sjoerd. I'm glad I got to stay in the warm though, for this one. I love looking at the frozen landscapes... very beautiful. Sure would love a tomato.

Enjoyed your ride through the countryside...but the truth be told, you left me cold! :D Me thinks that I shall never be as good a poet as are thee!
On a serious note...do you put your toms in a brown paper bag to ripen them?

Lovely picture of the tomatoes. The color contrast becomes very vivid by putting them in a green dish (with a white cloth separating the 2 colors). Very well done indeed! :)

Just looking again... this time at how you prepared your blueberries for winter... Here it is only the start of Winter and I'm wondering how my blues will do in the Spring. Those landscapes are very beautiful and interesting to look at.

BUNKIE--Thanks for your comments. I put the green toms in a paper bag with an over-ripe apple and that helps things along quicker. I am tickled pink that I've still got toms at this time of year.

Glad you liked that one, FRANK--I'm getting silly when I have too much time on my hands.

Thanks alot, TONI--glad you liked the pics and the manner of presentation of the content. The cadence isn't perfect withouty sometimes re-reading the words...but it was fun to attempt.

Thanks for your comments too, PHILIP--I could re-feel the nip in the air when I looked at the pics again. It was face-burning, lip numbing cold out there that day.

Hahaha...You are funny, PALMPIE--Thanks so much for your kind words.

DAZEDBEANS--Thanks for enjoying the trip. Yes, I think that anyone would have preferred to be inside on that day, although it was less 'mean' in the dark pine forest. Still and cool...but not a penetrating type of cold. The blueberries will get some more attention later on. I will add azalia soil and pine bark chips on top of that. I hope that yours will do well next year. I feel pretty sure that they will. You put alot of effort into making them a success. Thanks too for liking the landscapes. Polishing off a tom on my sweater...and extending it to you. Hava-matuh!

Hahah...Well DROOPY--I don't know exactly what to think of your comment. chuckle. Thanks for the nice words though. :)

Oh DOOLEY--you would have loved the treats, and inside is a very good place to enjoy the trip from. There's alot to be said for "armchair travelling".

:) GAIL--you are a real card...and a poet to boot! Thanks so much for your nice words.

Thanks for your compliment on the tom foto, SH. They are as tastey as they look.

No EILEEN, no--no swapping puh-leeeeeze. There's enough white stuff here at the moemnt. Well, ant it or not, there more on the way, the weatherpersons are saying.
I'm glad that you enjoyed the trip.

Thanks to you all once again for enjoying Drentuh in thuh wintuh.
