Has anyone had any problems with composting old dried fruit? Found an old bag of dried cranberries in the back of the fridge, put a few out for the birds, but is it ok to compost? The only 2 ingredients are cranberries and sugar.
When ever I get something with sugar to add in my compost, I feel like I am giving the compost pile a boost. No it is not a problem adding old dried fruits with sugar into the compost. The sugar will give the composting bacteria a boost!
KKNg is right--sugar added either directly or in the form of sugared fruit will help the compost pile. I even throw in frosted doughnuts and breakfast rolls.
Whoa, good to know. Now I can treat myself to a half dozen donuts and save one or two for the compost barrel.
My chickens get all that kind of stuff. They get almost all our leftovers plus things we can't use out of the garden .
Thank you for the input! Good to know. I know that yeast feeds on sugar when making baked goods, so that figures that the bacteria would like it.
