I've been watering my eggplant pretty regulary, but the leaves are yellowing and curling. I haven't had much problem with aphids... Help!
My first thought was too much watering. Also, you live next to the beach...could it be salt spray affecting it?
Spider mites were a problem for me this year. They are very hard to see on the eggplants with their fuzzy leaves. I couldn't see them until I found the webs. Look for this and look closely. If this is what you have try a soap not detergent spray and spray thoroughly leaf tops, bottoms and stems. If that doesn't do it then try an insecticide.
Good question, Toni. Not sure... I think I might have to look that up. I'm trying to keep the soil pretty moist. The plant is still in a container- I think I might have to bring it indoors and keep it warm. I'm gonna look for bugs later with a magnifying glass if I have to...
Miles, how old is the eggplant? After a few months they begin to shed their bottom leaves. If you still have new growth at the top, and if it is setting blossoms, the yellow/curling leaves may just be old ones.
Hi guys! Sorry for the late reply. Work has been pretty busy, so I haven't been able to check in =). One of my employees gave me the eggplant to grow, and a month ago it was only an inch high. It's pretty big now, and still growing. I haven't found any pests on it (whew!). I moved it to a place in my yard where it's a little cooler, but still has access to sunlight. Might help? Thanks everyone!
Growing in a container can be difficult. Did your plant wilt by any chance? that would definitely cause the leaves to yellow and drop.
Hi Carolyn! No wilting, just really dry leaves. I think I'm going to try using a humidifier around the plants!
