    Yes, that is correct, dropping for lunch. This gull is dropping this shell for its lunch. Others may drop in for lunch when the shell hits the ground though.

    I've seen gulls and members of the corvine family doing this. Whoever coined the phrase 'birdbrained' got it wrong!! These birds have worked out the best way to get food out of shells without any help from humans.
