Well we are getting ready to order our Chistmas present this next week. We are giving ourselves a new kitchen. New ceramic tile floor, new cabinets and a new Silestone counter top. (Man made stone. All of our appliances are under 5 years old, so we will keep those. Will post before and after pics in the gallery when the work begins sometime in Jan.

That sounds like the kind of gift we should be giving ourselves here. Our kitchen is definitely outdated, including the appliances.
Can't wait to see the photo's Capt!

A new kitchen - fantastic. That's just the kind of present I'd really appreciate. I'll look forward to seeing the work in progress. :-D

That's a wonderful gift idea. Hope it doesn't take too long for everything to be done.

I would like to have a new sink and countertops, that is one of our projects for next year.

That is such a nice present...I am not a lover of tile...I have it in this house and I have only been here about 3 years and have cracked ones...so hard to find replacements so do get some extra and have them on hand... I can't wait for the pictures on the project...I love looking at before and after pictures. How long will the project take?

He will do the floor first, as it has to go in under the lower cabinets. Then install the lower cabinets. Once that is done they will come out and measure for the countertop. Since it will take a couple of weeks to make it. We are getting an undermount sink and they will install that before installing the countertop. While we are waiting to install the counter, the upper cabinets can go in. Then he will install a tube skylight in the ceiling. The kitchen is fairly dark and that should brighten it up a lot. Probably about a month, start to finish.

Now is this tube light opening one you can open? I have seen a couple different styles. It should work great for more lighting in the kitchen. I don't know if I would of thought about one. Our neighbors have large ceiling openings and it is so scary to watch him climb the tall ladder( 2 story house) and climb out over the slanted garage roof to clean the windows over the room above the garage. I think they call it a great room....I would let Mother Nature clean it...my husband would never do it..the neighbor man puts another ladder on the slanted roof to reach the windows and I am always worried that it will slide sideways and he will be hurt.

No you can't open it. It is circular and about 18" in diameter. By older brother put several in his house a dew years ago and you can't beleive how much light they bring in.

Those tube light things are pretty nifty. But, sounds like your kitchen will be out of commission over Christmas... what, no baking fruitcake? tsk.

The cabinets are special order so it will be 4 to 6 weeks before they come in. So it will be Jan at the earliest before they will start. I have to call my BIL tomorrow to make sure he is going to do it. Then will order them. I already have the floor tile and the tube light and the new kitchen faucet. So should have everything when the cabinets come in. So meals will be either take out or eat out while the work is going on.
