Buckeye Chuck, the Ohio Groundhog didn't see his shadow, so it's an early spring for us! The phoney over in Pennsylvania saw his so they get 6 more weeks of winter! :)

According to the old Celtic calender Spring began yesterday, Feb 1st. It's only the present day calender that says Spring doesn't begin until the Vernal Equinox on March 21st or 22nd.

But now, when Spring weather will arrive is always a surprise. ;)

Yesterday was spring--72 warm and breezy degrees!
Today is winter--34, rain, and a cold wind.
Some groundhog made a terrible mistake.

No matter what groundhogs or the Celtic calendar says I always consider the first day of spring to be the 1st of March. However, my garden seems to think it's just around the corner as all my bulbs are popping up and the trees are producing new lead buds.

Eileen, that is the Meteorological reckoning that groups the months of each season according to their average temperatures values. It's even a much better way of demarcating the seasons than either of the others.

Our "Unadilla Bill" saw his shadow this morning...
But anyway, I always count on February being the height of winter here. Just a dreary, cold, yucky month. March can go either way. Some years warm; others, more wintery. We'll see now won't we?
I just don't get that Ground hog day reasoning anyway!!

Our groundhog, Wiarton Willy, has predicted another 6 weeks of winter. No matter what that silly ground hog says, the first day of spring is always March 21st to me. The way this winter has been going it may even bet later this year!

I can't believe Buckeye Chuck even came out of his hole. I see we are supposed to have another storm roll in here tomorrow night. 6 - 10 INCHES. I am so ready for Spring. I am thankful for my greenhouse though, even though it is like watching grass grow right now, at least there is stuff to watch grow. Geraniums, petunias, pansies, herbs, a few (for pots) tomatoes and other misc. stuff growing slow, but surely.

When they were holding Chuck, they dropped him. So to get even, I think he lied! The one they use in Staten Island NY couldn't make it so they used a stuffed one! He was probably standing in line to get into the Super Bowl! :)
