Got 2 trailer loads of fire wood cut up today. Some of it was Black Locust that was cut down 2 years ago. And I took down a wild cherry that was 1/2 dead also. When I get the energy I will start splitting it. But first I need to get the wood shed cleaned out and ready to put it in.

Just take it easy and don't do too much at one time...it is best to get it done and started to dry for use. How long does it have to dry? I think I remember someone saying about a year at one time.

Most of the wood I cut is dead wood. So the only moisture is from rain. I usually dry it for at least 6 mo. sometimes lomger. I use a hydraulic splitter so it really isn't that much work. My heating bill for this past winter was about $ 50. So I can't complain! It's well worth the effort!

Wow...$50. is so cheap. I bet I used more than that to keep the bird bath heated...I am glad you have a hydraulic splitter to help you out. I always hated it when we lost trees when we had a woods...it seemed like every storm, something would fall over or off.
