The early wildflowers have started blooming. Some are common all over the world, here you are: Anemone nemorosa, woodland anemone: Bellis perennis: Cardamine pratensis: Primula vulgaris (this grows in a garden nearby): Ranunculus ficaria: Tussilago farfara: And the dandelion, Taraxacum officinale: We also had a visitor on the terrace the other day, a cool insect:
Oh, what pretty little wildflowers. And then there are the dandelions, they make pretty flowers but grow to be really tall ugly weeds if I don't catch them in time. I believe your pretty insect is an Assassin Bug. There are over 3000+ varieties....all colors, shapes and sizes. I found a couple like yours out back last week.
I haven't got a single dandelion in the garden, but I've got plenty of Taraxacum. We made wine from the flowers one year. Lots of work and the result was great, but it had to sit for at least 7 years. 3000+ varieties? I think I won't even try to find out which one it is.

Lots of those wildflower dandelions here already, but none have flowers on them...yet. They're always one of the first things to green up in the spring. I guess that's why they call them weeds (or wildflowers, whichever you prefer!).
Pretty pictures Droopy. Isn't spring grand? I have a friend that comes to pick Dandelion's for wine sometimes. I've never tried it but I'm sure he doesn't let it sit for 7 years. Maybe his recipe is different?
Lovely little flowers! I know a gal, took her kids out to pick dandelions to show them how to make a salad of them- a neighbor caught wind of it and turned her in for child abuse!
We have basically all those up here too. but i can't say if i have ever seen that beetle up here. I honestly don't know. 7 yrs on dandelion wine!! that must of been some recipe, i bet it tastes like fine wine when its done. mine takes about 9-12 months before its good to open. the longer the better. Child abuse for picking whats out in nature! Thats crazy. I wonder if that women knows that when she buys muxcli mix in the bag for salads, she is eating dandelion leaves. Geez thats no different than taking your kids out to pick wild berries. Thats just crazy. great pics droopy!
Thank you all. The best ones are still to come, but I love the early ones most, even though they are horrible, tough weeds in the gardens. That wine was supposed to sit for about one year, but I guess my husband did something he shouldn't have done. It did taste wonderful, and was well worth the wait. CP: Some people just don't stop to think, they just act. Lots of knowledge is disappearing, and this is an obvious example.
