We have done our bit for the planet Netty. Switched off our lights for one hour this evening. Hope others have done the same and it has made a difference :)

I read in the paper this morning that one billion people joined in the plea to help save our planet.

I had no trouble turning everything off yesterday...I was exhausted from working in the yard and went to bed early. We were the only house on our street to have the lights out. I'm very disappointed in my neighbors :(

Actually, you turn lights off your lights at home for approximately 8 hours every night anyway.

Now, if they can get all the buildings in the major cities downtown areas to turn off their lights one hour that would add up since those are on 24/7.

I do agree with you, toni. We put our lights out but we were the only ones around here as far as we could see.

It was the same for me. My house is usually dark anyway since we always switch off whenever we leave a room. On Saturday all that was required was to switch off the light in the room where we were. (Nothing like some romantic candles) - But that got me thinking again. I was just lighting up one room with candles. What about those who insist that their whole house be illuminated? Were they burning candles in all their rooms?.. Surely that would not help reduce their carbon footprint.

Many people in Cape Town opted to have BBQs outdoors during earthhour since the weather was good.
