That looks like a female Eastern Tiger Swallowtail http://www.pbase.com/rcm1840/image/63840841 I have had 4 of the males flying around the garden this summer, I know there has to be a female out there but have yet to see it. But since there are two forms of females I most likely have had at least one.

That's a very attractive butterfly Sherry. I'm glad it was busy feeding so that your husband could get such good shots of it.

Thank you Eileen...my husband was the one that saw it and told me so I could take a picture of it. He doesn't use a camera. I offered him one of mine, I seem to have collected a few extra through the years. But he said no...

Your hubby sounds like me. If I want a picture taken, I call Mike! Great picture of a butterfly I've never seen.

Sorry Sherry. I should have realised from the quality of the photographs that they were taken by you. I am really pleased though that your husband spotted it.

Sherry, great photos as always--you have shared such wonderful nature pictures with us--thank you!
I have a soft spot for swallowtails. I know Monarchs are endangered and here on the farm we do everything we can to provide milkweed, etc. for them, but swallowtails just touch my heart. Seeing a swallowtail of any sort just makes me happy!

Thank you marlingardener. I know what you mean when certain things bring a smile to your face...I have so many things I love but seeing the hummingbirds and orioles arrive in the spring are a couple of things for me...

Yes that is a great pic. Lately I haven't spent enough time outside watching for this beautiful wildlife. Although we do have quite a few Monarchs this year.

Thank you Tooty2shoes. We had quite a few Monarchs and the last few days after strong winds I think they blew to another area...
