I didn't know where to put this so I put it here. I have a pantry cupboard in the kitchen, about 3 ft by 4 ft. I noticed I had a mouse. So, I put a mouse trap baited with cheese in there. It didn't eat the cheese so I added a mousetrap with bacon on it. Today, both mousetraps still had the bait but there was a hole chewed in a bag of spaghetti. So, we went to the dollar store to buy some D-con for mice. We couldn't find it so dr went to the checkout counter and asked the woman if they had any d-con. She told him that she didn't think so. It was probably going to come in with the Christmas stuff. That sure puzzled dr. Why would d-con come in with Christmas stuff. Then, she mumbled that they had peanuts and almonds and maybe sunflower seeds if he could use those. We finally decided that she heard pecan instead of d-con. We left. Tonight on the way to work we stopped at K-Mart. We asked the girl where we could find d-con. She said,"What?" We went and looked for it ourselves. It was at the end of the row that had cleaning supplies along with the bug spray. Now, the pantry closet has a box of d-con. Hope the mouse likes it. I have a big plastic tub to hold the spaghetti. dooley
Dooley, get some Anise Essential Oil and sprinkle some on the d-con. Mice and rats can not resist the smell of Anise, it will draw them to the d-con and they will be sure to eat it. We also sprinkle some on the peanut butter we put in mouse/rat traps. We don't use cheese in the traps since they tend to be able to get that out without getting caught in the trap.
I hope you manage to catch that mouse Dooley before it encourages others or does any more damage in your pantry.
Good Luck! That is a good idea with the Anise oil, I've never heard that before. We had a TERRIBLE mouse problem at my office. They used some kind of blue d-con stuff to kill them. Didn't work so hot, we kept finding blue mouse poop! That is when I adopted my cat Missy Mama. Haven't had a problem since!! Deanna :-D
The cooler weather is certainly bringing the mice in around here too Dooley. The best thing is crunchy peanut butter as bait. I push a piece of peanut into the little hole and put a big blob around it. The mice have to really tug at the peanut and that sets off the trap every time! I hate to empty the traps though.
