Has anyone else heard of the idea to plant a egg under the hole you dig for your new friend?

I know that egg shells are good for plants and help out in the compost bin. But that's about all I can tell you about it.

I have heard of adding egg shells to plants and compost for calcium but the whole egg only in the hole when you plant tomatoes...don't know about other plants.

My grandmother used to do that. She had beautiful tomatoes every year. I don't do that and i have 8 foot tall ones every year but I think I am going to get back to all my old habits this year. My tomatoes get so big that after they reach the tip of there stakes I tie them together like a tee pee. There are tunnels instead of rows.

Calcium helps prevent blossom end rot, so I put a crushed egg shell into each hole when I plant tomatoes. I'm afraid that planting a whole egg would encourage the "critters" to dig it up, along with the tomato plant.
