Hurricane force winds, tidal surges, and power outages are hitting Scotland. Eileen, are you affected? Until we hear from you, we'll keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Stay safe, stay warm, and don't venture outside until the storm passes.
Prayers for all in harms way. The predictions are disturbing as the precautions being taken are unusual. I remember the 1953 storm that devastated northern Europe 60 years ago. Lets hope the flooding stays to a minimum as the area goes through 3 high tides. Jerry
Oh dear, I just heard on the news where Ireland was hit with high winds. I do hope Philip is safe, also. For all our members in Europe, we would love to hear from you, just to know if you are safe and sound.
I've tried to find news updates. 100,000 people are without power and all trains are stopped in Scotland. There's flooding too. In Wales people are rescued from their houses by boats. The storm has also hit southern Norway (a long way from where I live). Trees are falling across roads and people are asked to stay indoors. Here's a link to BBC News about the storm: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-25220224
I hope all our friends off shore are safe. Talk about screwing up a holiday. I wonder where GS is hosted?
Hi Folks,..thanks for the concern,..i hope Eileen and all our friends this side of the pond are safe,..whew what a storm!,..no damage to the fur babies or myself or the house,..the wind started at about 0500 this morning,..up to force 11 and winds in places up to 124 mph,..it has blown itself out where i live but around now 10 or 11 tonight its expected to be bad in the UK with high tides and waves. Every tree near the house lost all their leaves and ended up near my house,..when i opened the front door they just fell in. Molly for once is confused. At The Front Door. Hi Carolyn,..i suspect that many of our members in the UK are without electricity and the internet connections are pretty bad all over,..even mine is jumpy at present,..lets hope they all check in safe and well.
Nice to know that you are alright Philip Nulty. As for Eileen, I am sure that she too is OK - Only the communication network must have taken a serious hit. I remember Eileen once said that she lives in a restored house that was build (100s of years ago) entirely out of stone. And to modernizing it was a real challenge, as making plumbing and electrical connections through 3 feet thick stone walls wasn't easy... Hence her house is rock solid, and has already stood the test of time (as this isn't the first storm that area would have experienced). Therefore I am almost 100% sure that she and her family is alright.
Thanks for your concern folks but we're all just fine. No power cuts or anything. I spent the day wrapping Chrissie presents and addressing cards. The storm hit us in the early hours of the morning - torrential rain and winds up to 135 miles an hour!! Strangely though there was very little damage here in the village although surrounding areas seem to have been hit harder. A HGV river died when his vehicle rolled over on top of two cars. This happened within 10 miles of us. As S-H said living in a cottage 100's of years old in bad weather is a great advantage - especially now that we've had the roof replaced. :-D
Whew! What a relief to hear that you, Eileen, and also that Philip are safe! Now if we hear from Syd, and all the other UK members, we'll all celebrate!
