What majestic animals. :D I had to check to see what kind of animal the elk is, and it seems they're similar to our deer only larger.

It really IS a thrill to see the magnificent beasts....even on fotos--it must have been spectacular in real life!
It is nice to know that this sort of thing can still happen.

I wonder where they were in the years they were missing from your area? What beautifully, rustic scenery and those elk are really handsome creatures. :-D

Biita, I disagree. An elg is a moose, just check the antlers and build. That thing is a mega-size red deer, and the deer I liken it to is the Cervus elaphus. Bigger than roe deer but smaller than the waipiti.

droopy, the elk here are bigger than the deer, but smaller than the moose. a moose could easily step over an elk, and an elk could easily step over a deer. the dogs will chase deer, but never go near an elk unless it's running, and never ever go after a moose, no matter what! :D

thanks for all the kind words. eileen, i'm thinking maybe the harsh winters had something to do with them not showing up. could be they had to go a different way to the river....that's where they head come spring.

I've only seen your elk in films, bunkie, but I'd love to see them in RL. :D I think our big deer are majestic, and our moose (which we call elg with a g not k in Norwegian) is a lot bigger, but still smaller than your moose as far as I know. But the antlers are the same for both species.
