We visited Everglades City on our trip to FL.
It has a great old inn & restaurant called The Rod & Gun Club. It's essentially an old inn from the ?1920's where fishermen would come to stay. It overlooks a canal that empties out into the Gulf at the southern tip of FL.

    Here's some photos

Aside from the Rod & Gun Club, Everglades City is an interesting fishing town. The fishing families tend to go way back.

It has a checkered history. During the 1970's, the town fishermen became involved in smuggling pot in from Central America & Mexico. The FBI did a sting and 80% of the adult male population of the town were arrested. One woman was quoted as saying "we have no men left!". Check it out. You can Google the news articles about the bust at the time.

Oh, and here's the veranda at the Inn where we dined, watching the fishing boats going in & out. They do a big business in crabbing. PXL_20220318_194905252.MP_compress80.jpg

This is lovely. What a funny chapter in it's history. We love to fish but I have never fished salt water - those are some beauties on the wall. Is that an otter at the door?

Melody....I don't know. Aren't otters fresh water? The canal there is brackish. Goes up and down with the tide.

Otters are found in salt water. Off the coast of California, abalone fishermen were upset because otters were taking so many abalone.
They float on their backs and snack on abalone!
Otters are found in rivers, estuaries, marshes, and oceans. Now you know more about otters than you ever wanted!

That inn looks very interesting. Love the stained glass decor. Looks like a place worth visiting if I ever come close to it.
