OK, so I'm bored once again... Therefore I thought, why not start an interesting thread? A thread that will enable us to explore other countries - Virtually! :D

But to squeeze all the information about a country, any country, in a single post isn't going to be easy.

So I thought about it long and hard :headscratch:

Until I realized, that if we simply view the national anthem videos of different countries on YouTube - Then we should get an accurate idea of what a nation, it's culture, and it's heritage is all about, (plus how it's people dress and look like). Thankfully, nearly all nations have their anthems translated into English as well, (making it easy for us to understand). And since YouTube is now a global treasure trove of visual information - Means that there is no shortage of such videos!

So let's start! Rules of this thread are simple, you don't have post your own country's national anthem video, you can pick any nation. Pick your own too, if that is what you like - But since we don't have active member from all the nations, I think this arrangement is fair. So freely pick any national anthem video of any country you like (preferably with an English translation).

I myself am a Pakistani national, but this thread I will now start with the anthem of UAE (United Arab Emirates). Because they are one of our best friends, and neighbors too, (across the Arabia sea). My own Pakistani national anthem I can always do later. :)

    The Norwegian one:

It's a bit outdated of course, since it was written at a time when fathers fought and mothers cried. I like it nonetheless.

Thanks for contributing in this thread Droopy! :) I think your national anthem is good! However to me it sounds similar to UK's national anthem (God save the queen). Perhaps it's just a coincidence, but to me it sound almost alike.

Anyway, this below is Oman's national anthem - I really wish we had more active members from elsewhere - As I feel I am carrying the weight of the whole world on my shoulders now... But who knows, maybe, just maybe, this might attract new members from different areas of the world.

And this here is the French national anthem, La Marseillaise. Sadly we don't have any active member from France either at this time. So their work too, I'll now do... Sight... But at least their anthem is good! :D

La Marseillaise is taught in French classes here. It's not a very eh... sweet and peaceful national anthem you might say. I'm surprised you thought our anthem is similar to "God save the Queen". We use that too, only it's "God save the King" since we won't have a queen until the Crown Prince has done his duty as King.

Yes you are right, sometimes La Marseillase doesn't sound all that welcoming to outsiders (specially if you take the time to understand all the lyrics) - However, this is the reason why I didn't post the Palestinian national anthem, as that could have offend many (even though in my personal opinion I think they are fully justified to say whatever they like in their anthem)...

Anyway, now let's go to the nation of islands in the Indian ocean, known as the Maldives - A very friendly and extremely beautiful nation, who's main attraction is tourism. It is also one about 4 or 5 nations to where Pakistanis can travel without any visa! their time zone is also the same as Pakistan, which means that we don't even have to adjust out watches. They are an Islamic nation, however their culture and language is very different. They are actually a mixture of Asian, Arabian, and Indian cultures - Truly a unique unspoiled gem in the middle of the ocean! Unfortunately, we don't have any members from the Maldives either. So this duty too, I will now have to do myself.
