Be you a "Cinder-ella" or a "Cinder-fella", you wear some kind of footwear to work in the garden. A few years ago we were in town and my partner stopped by a little store in one of the side streets. I stayed outside chatting with a mate. So she sticks her head out the door and says, "Come in a moment, will you?". I say good bye to my buddy and in I went, curious. She says that she's got a crazy notion to buy some wellies (rubber garden boots) for working in the garden. I looked around and said, "This a boutique" :-| Then she says, "Have a look at these. What do you think?" I was astounded and for once, was speechless. While I had turned into a piller of salt and just stood there, trying to get my head around this.... she eased over to the cashier and quietly paid. She just sort of pulled at my elbow and said, "Ok lets go then." Well, we went home and when she took them out and looked at them silently...grinning... I broke the silence and said, "And now wot?!" "Why, I'm going to wear them at the lottie", she said, with conviction. It was weeks. She wears them now regularly, and I always smile. So.... what do you wear while doing garden work? Cute Wellies, my choice would be the green ones too. Before next Spring that is what I want to get too. I usually garden in a pair of slip on canvas shoes but when the ground is wet I have a pair of plastic clogs.
Nice welllies! I garden in worn-out trainers when it's dry and I just weed. When there's dirty work to do I wear wellies. Our soil is rarely dry, so good foot wear is a must.
I wear an old, worn out pair of slippers in the garden during the summer months if it's dry. When it's wet or I have a lot of digging etc to do then it's a traditional pair of plain black wellies for me. Boring ain't I?!! I love your partners wellies but wouldn't want to get them all covered in mud so probably wouldn't wear them in the garden but I would put them on for country walks. :-D
i have 3 pairs that i use,, but usually i like to go barefoot when its nice out. the boots i use in the sea an in the garden or when its raining out just to get where i have to. the clogs i use in the garden but usually come off after a few minutes,,,lol. as you can see they are well worn!!!
I don't own any willies. An I can't just go barefoot like I really would perfer on account we keep finding broken glass around the garden and the yard. I usually use some old tennis shoes or some slip on shoes.
I have my "Duck shoes" that I wear in cooler weather. In the summer I'm usually in sandals, and spring and fall when it's really wet I have my wellies.
Besides old slip ons and tennis shoes, here is another item I like to have on in the garden. These are knee pads. I use them for when I'm kneeling and planting in the garden, or pulling weeds. Sure saves on the knees.
I wear Crocs everywhere!! Actually I only have 1 pair of authentic Crocs, the rest are Walmart knock offs The brighter they are the more I like them! I love the colorful wellies, don't own a pair (yet) I'm hoping I get a pair of knee pads for Christmas, I think they would be a good investment! Deanna :-D
I have black and white polka-dot willies to match my black and white polka dot unbrella. They do not dare make it into the garden. I wear whatever I slip on my feet: crocks, flip flops, worn out sneakers. I will end up in the garden in just about anything.
When I have a pair of shoes that are absolutely too scandulously worn-out to be worn in public, they become my new pair of garden shoes...at least that's the way I normally do it; however, my partner talked me into buying a "decent" pair of shoes just for garden ware. I really thought this was nuts...but I did go and buy a very inexpensive pair of canvas trainer-type shoes. They have a very deep tread and thus collect moist soil which lets loose at home. They are sort of tan and show every stain imaginable. My partner has now admitted that perhaps it wasn't such a good idea after all :-? ...but "'m the one stuck with a new pair of shoes that show no sign of wearing out whatsoever. -- I used to wear wooden shoes as several of the older allotmenteers do, but finally stopped as I didn't find them comfortable enough. They don't give at all, of course, and I spend alot of time on my knees. Nice knee pads, Petunia. I use those too (although mine are black), especially if I am laying paths in the flower garden or planting seedlings out. It is possible to buy the "industrial" sort that the guys use who lay streets and pparking lots and driveways. Over here, we still use bricks instead of tarmack in many places.
