I had never heard of them until one appeared on one of the lawns. just one question how do I get rid of it? does it really mean I have to dig up affected area and re-seed or turf? G.
Hi again, Regular mowing seems to keep most toadstools at bay in my garden as well as making sure that I aerate the lawn area about twice a year (spring and autumn). If any do appear then I simply nip them out before they have the chance to spore and create 'fairy rings.' I don't use chemicals in my garden but I'm sure there must be a fungicide that you can buy to eliminate the problem without having to take the grass up. Aeration will help over time! but there really isnt a good fungicide for fairy ring. the best way to deal with it is to keep the lawn fertilized to cover up the dark green rings!
Guess that's an advantage to living in the country, I rather like my fairy rings! Trivia bit, the world's largest fairy ring is right here in Washington, in the Hoh rain forest.
The best solution when trying to get rid of fairy rings is to try to not create the conditions that may allow the fungi to rise. In this case prevention is better than cure.
If you have any small unwanted weeds, there are organic ways of getting rid of them. You wont need to use any chemicals. Hot boiling water is one method. The heat of the water, when you poured directly on to the weeds, will cause them to shrivel up. I have also seen a few people suggest vinegar as a way of getting rid of these unwanted weeds but if you do choose to use this, be careful.
We have fairy rings also. I like mine. If you look in the Google browser. They tell a very mysterious explanation To Truth be told or an Imagination. I am waiting for the fairies to dance around at night. That would be cool!
Actually precautionary measures are more important than remedy especially in gardening. so be aware next time when some notion are appear like these.
