With mean ol' summer gone, the plants are showing their appreciation of the cooler temps with flowers.

What's the purple plant, you ask?

These are growing all over the area.

And this is what a field of them look like.

So no need to have any in the garden when you can just look in any direction and see lots of them.

    :D

And last, but not least... this little Luna Hibiscus has been blooming like crazy!

Wow Cheryl! Those are real beauties.
    Aren't those asters lovely.
You still have quite a lot of colour. I hope that it continues for some time to come.

Beautiful plants! I always love the fall posts from the southern Stewbies ... lots of pictures of plants I don't see around here! I do have the Asters and Goldenrod (long done blooming though) but the others are new to me. Very pretty!

Those asters are a real eye catcher Cheryl and a lovely colour into the bargain. Autumn seems to be a perfect time for your flowers to show off their beauty. :-D

Frank....It's amazing that just a 10-15 degree drop in temperature could make that much difference in the plants here. But.. I guess if I had to stand out in the heat for months, I'd be jumping up and down for joy now too.

Sjoerd... September & October seem to be the best time for my plants. I few things will continue on into mid November, but pretty much everything will be done by then. So I might have one more month of blooms. I still have some new stuff that are Fall-blooming that haven't do so yet, so hopefully soon.

Netty... And I look forward to seeing all the beautiful fall colors you all get up north! I guess it's a fair trade?

Eileen... can you believe that at one point this summer I was about to yank out that aster? It was just growing out of the bed in the way. But then I had to remind myself why I bought it... FALL bloomer. so I trimmed it and sat back to see what it would do. I'm so glad I gave it a chance. Gotta get a couple more of those going next year.
    Thanks everyone!

Wonderful to see your asters. I lost mine, I think because of shade. Yours are a joy to see.

I can't WAIT till I have this kind of garden, the kind that remains colorful till the last possible minute! My garden is still so much a work-in-progress. Nothing is established yet. Even the shrubs I planted this spring as foundation plants haven't done what I expected. All but one is either dead or dying, so I'm going to have to start over next spring. When I get to the point where all the basics are there and thriving and I can start branching out, I think I'm going to throw a virtual party here on the Stew, and you're all invited!

Cheryl, can you tell me what that bright green, spiky looking plant is beside the lovely purple flowers in the second picture. I LOVE the way it looks!

Jewell... now that you mention it, the one in the back gets more shade than this one, and it's not as full. Guess that explains why.

Ronni... that plant is Foxtail Fern - Asparagus densiflorus 'Meyersii'. I too love it's spiky look.. definitely stands out.
All of our gardens are a work in progress... some have just been on the job longer than others! :D
I'm working towards that type of garden too. This is my third year at the house and I've made some good progress towards having year-round color. Next year, I need to concentrate on some early-blooming stuff.

    Thanks again everyone!

Thanks Philip... I've had asters before... but nothing like this one... it's like a very woody shrub. It's definitely earned it's keep and with no help from me. Just some water here and there. Oh yeah... and that time I chopped it back. Hmmm... wonder if that's what made it fill out so nicely? :headscratch:

As I have been adding to my gardens I didn't see fall bloomers much. Now I scan across my gardens and only see a few purple ones. So I ran out and bought 75 mums of all colors and am planting them ALL over the property.

Now I am making a list of the plants that everyone is showing here. Of course some of them won't live in my area but I will add whatever will, now that I see all of yours.

Thanks for sharing. Everything looks so nice.
