The yard has been neglected and the watering hoses need to be put away for the winter. Haven't done it yet, but have cleaned the wayward strawberry runners out of some of the pathes. The filbert has started shedding its leaves and the pavers are covered in moss or leaves. The yard definitely wants to revert back to a wild state. ( leaves covering paths and beds alike/ picture from Jewell's Garden ) ( moss covered pavers/ picture from Jewell's Garden ) ( branches helped keep dogs out of woodland beds and sweet woodruff filled in nicely/ picture from Jewell's Garden ) We've had an unusually colorful (for us) fall. Lots of yellow leaves between the evergreens. The blueberry bushes are red. ( blueberry bush in fall colors/ picture from Jewell's Garden ) The blue billow hydrenga flowers have turned a mauvey-pink and a few lone echinachae blooms are hanging in there. The cool summer was not enjoyed by the nasturiums, but a few finally started to grow and ended up on the trellis for green beans that the slugs enjoyed more than we did. blue-willow hydrenga ( photo / image / picture from Jewell's Garden ) ( echinachae blooming into the fall/ picture from Jewell's Garden ) ( nasturium/ picture from Jewell's Garden ) ( naturium and green beans on the trellis/ picture from Jewell's Garden ) Over all its been a good year if damp. The mushrooms popped up in the front yard in mulitple places. You never know what you will be growing ( photo / image / picture from Jewell's Garden ) ( photo / image / picture from Jewell's Garden )
I enjoyed the walk through your Autumn garden. I do so love the Autumn leaves, which I don't get to see here.
Jewell--Your autumn fotos of your garden look so nice. I do not find the faded glory of the garden infall all bad. It is transitional, to be sure...but it has its own charm. You stull have quite a bit of colour there. I liked the trellis shot annnnnd those clumps of mushrooms were a real pleasure to see. They looked sort of cozy there all bunched-up together.
I enjoyed all the photos Jewel... yep transition time. But your transition looks so pretty! And the nasturium took my breath way! Such pretty markings.
Jewell, your fall garden is beautiful. thanks for the pics. enjoy your time outdoors getting the fall cleanup done. I always dread the cleanup, but I think it is more that winter is coming than the amount of work that it is. Now if it would just dry out some here. It would make it much easier to do it.
There is still so much beauty in your Fall garden Jewell! Climbing Nasturtiums? I must look for some of those next year!
Thanks for the kind comments kathyd and Caroyn. The sun is gone today and we are back to rain and wet. Bernieh we were discussing fall at work since we all come from different regions of the US. Seasonal changes do have different meanings everywhere. Right now we have so much more color than we have most years. Lukeypuckey hope your cone flowers thrive for you. Most coneflowers are hardy to -30 F. Slugs are my problem in the spring when they are trying to reemerge in the spring. Lost two plants in a bed that was too crowded. I was out sticking the cone heads into the soil hoping I might have more plants in the spring. Cherylad and Soejrd transitional times are special in their own way aren't they? Netty I think i get climbing nasteriums when my garden is shaded and there is too much cool and rain. :?
All the photos are great but I LOVE THE 5th ONE!!!! Those colors are...I don't know how to describe them...calming...cool...yummy I was supposed to do yard work yesterday but never made it out there maybe today
