Since it's been cool in the mornings I've been going to get my little vegetable beds ready for a fall garden. Things kept getting in the way but nothing was on the calendar for today so I went out and cleaned out the 8ft x 8ft square bed and hoed it and raked it. I want to hoe it another time and add some compost and it will be ready. I left an eggplant in it because it had some green leaves and I'm hoping it will grow some. I pulled the weeds out of the triangle bed and the small rectangular bed but still have to hoe them and rake them and hoe them with some compost.
I need to do the 20 ft rectangle bed. It's only 4 ft wide. But, I run out of energy pretty quick these days and it was getting hot. Going to be 94 degs today.
I'll sort my seeds and see what I have to plant for a fall and winter garden and what I have to buy. Some times it just feels good to be doing some gardening at all.

Wow Dooley, that is getting hot to work in. Today it is sweatshirt weather up here. I had a market this morning and just about froze. My one boot was wet inside from the rain last night so I was even colder with a wet foot, but the sun finally peeked out at about the end of the market and warmed up the air. The rest of the day is another busy running day with highschool band stuff and MIL in hosp. for a few days....run, run, run, not much is getting done outside today.
Stay comfortable and cool this afternoon.

Yep, we think we are having fall weather if it gets down to 80. We can have 70+ in the middle of winter.

Dooley you manage to put me to shame with all your hard work. I only planted up 66 Primula today and watered the plants in the greenhouse. We've had frost for the last couple of nights and Ian had to scrape ice of the car windscreen this morning.

I'm not sure I could take scraping ice too many times in a winter anymore. I did that a lot up until 1989 when we moved west and then south. Now, I just visit snow if I want it. I'd much rather vegetable garden than shovel snow.

Been working on the vegetable beds off and on in between other things. This morning I went out and finished hoeing up the beds and removing roots and weeds. I raked them smooth. The little goats next door stuck their heads through the fence to eat on our side of the fence. So, we stopped and went to Home Depot for some welded wire fence with the 2"x3" slots so they won't be able to get their heads through it. We'll put it up tomorrow if it isn't raining. We bought some soil mix to put on the beds while we were there. We have mostly sand so we try to add something every time we plant it. When we got home dr dumped the stuff in the beds and I raked it down smooth. It's supposed to rain tomorrow so that should settle it down and maybe the first of next week I can get something planted. It's still in 90's during day but the rain is supposed to bring in 80's during the day and 60's at night so I can get some things planted. I'll have to water the stuff because we aren't getting that much rain. Cheryl gets our share along with hers.lol
I have spinach, lettuce, swiss chard, kale, carrots, sugar snap peas and some green beans. I forget what else right off. I want to stop at the feed store on the way into town and see what vegetable plants they have on their racks out front. Maybe cabbage, broccoli, brussel sprouts or something for cool weather. I have some beets, too.

I had the camera out so I took a picture of my four vegetable beds. Please don't look at the rest of my messy yard. When it gets cooler, we will get it fixed up, too.
