I live in the NE US & I am new to Garden Stew. Tell me, where do all the Garden Stewers go come winter? Not much garden news when everything is dormant. Do the winter Garden Stewers go dormant too?

Oh, no! Posting goes up in winter because there is more time to post things. Gardening questions and answers go on all year around. There is always something going on at Gardenstew. Pictures, too!

Cayuga Morning I'm still chuckling from that one. Some winters I would love to hibernate the way the Bears do and wake up next spring. We northern Stewers just dream of next spring and get excited when the new seed catalogs come out. Now what am I going to plant next season. ;)

Winter is a great time for planning and there seems to always be some great plant suggestions and do's & don'ts. Indoor projects, crafty stuff, etc gets shared. There's even some good tips for those dreaded house-cleaning chores that have been put off.
    :-o
And what better time to add photos and details to the Plant Pages!
Plus there's great landscape and wildlife photo opportunities.
    And then there's seed starting...
With our global community, seems someone somewhere has something going on.

I'm right here all year round. I do something gardening-related all year round and coming on here is part of it. I am not a "fair-weather Stewbie". I like to keep in touch all the time. :)

Hi Cayuga, you'll find that there is something going all all year round at GardenStew. It's very fun for members to reminisce on sunnier days and post old photos to get excited for the coming spring. So fear not, there is activity always :)

Well in the dead of winter there is gardening porn, come the new year.

I have few tender bonsai to fiddle with indoors.

Autumnal wind down won't be complete till everything if frozen tight.

Spring set up of wintersown boxes starts late in Feb.

Just barely time enough to tell some "the one that got away" stories in the slack.

Heck I could use an extra month or three in the year.

Things never let up on my other gardening boards, so I do not expect them to do so here. We always found something to talk about, even some silly cyber parties to keep things lively.

I have lots of houseplants, most of which have to come in for the winter in a few weeks. Some are going to new homes as they have gotten way too big for my little home and I do not want them to freeze. I had to divide my two Boston ferns this summer and now they are four. I ought to divide the asparagus fern too, but that is going to a cousin in law as she has a huge house. My mail carrier is getting at least one Boston fern, not sure what I will do with the other one, it may or may not fit indoors. My room will look like the jungle again... I have that huge monstera plant, it resembles a philodendron, but my plant book says it is not. My other houseplants are indoors already.

I think Garden Stew can bring me out of the winter blues! It's great to check in with everybody, and while we have winter, there are many who are having their summer growing season.
I like to go through the garden photos here, get ideas, and dream of things to come.
I also have numerous houseplants, and that can lead to some interesting Stew conversations too.

This winter I am going to make a Wardian case and experiment with growing plants in a terrarium. In case you missed the blog entry here it is:

    I'm not going anywhere.
Not that I wouldn't like to!
I'd swap some bulbs and roots for a cruise ticket.
Any direction. As long as I'm back by March 1st.
    LOL

For those who cant wait for winter to be over, you can still plant some things in the wintertime. Check out www.wintersown.org and see what you can plant for spring even if there is a lot of snow on the ground. Perennials winter sow themselves, and some annuals can be sown early in little homemade greenhouses. It is pretty cool. :stew1:
