This is the woods behind my property. It is part of the home place as is the field in front of it.

Berry's on the wild Honeysuckle. I'm surprised that the birds haven't gotten them.

Nice colours! :D I'm not partial to autumn but I find the colours a redeeming feature.

I like that first pic too -- you know what I like about it? I love the color of the grasses in the foreground, esp in contrast to the background. So much movement in that pic too; I feel like I can hear the wind rustle the grass and leaves. The honeysuckle berries are lovely too. It all looks so tidy -- wish my yard did at the moment!

    Beautiful flowering plants, there Capt'n.
The Asters and Sedums were really good--but I liked that first pic the best ofd all. I found it a piece of art.
All that dead underbrush-like studd looked like the fur on an animal's back...and that along with the beautiful fall colours of the trees made it a special-looking foto for me.
    Well done, mate!

The grass is some type of prairie grass that the guy sowed when he put it into land management. All of that including my 3 acres was once my parents. There was 152 acres all together. I grew up roaming throught those fields and the woods. And yes helping to farm them too. After my father passed away and my mother had to go to an assisted living place, the farm belonged to me and my 2 brothers. We eventually sold it all off. The guy that bought the farmland is the same guy who cash rented it. His land adjoined it so it just made his farm larger. We have known him ever since he was born and is a good friend.

That's very interesting history of your place, CK. I would imagine it is reassuring that your land is in the hands of a friend. It is certainly a lovely looking spot.

Your fall colors are lookin good. Do you divide your autumn joy each year so that their lined up as such? Their very pretty. Asters-one of the got-to-have flowers going on my next years list. Thanks for sharing.

Some more history of the homeplace. To the left behind the woods, it has always been thought that there had once been an indian village. Dad always found a lot of arrowheads and pieces of pottery in that field. My driveway is the original lane from the old homestead. I had a recorders search done and the land was first recorded at the courthouse in 1836. There was an old basement that was rocklined. My folks always threw their glass and tin cans in it. After I had my house built, I cleaned everything out of the old basement and took all the flat rocks out. Then put all the trash back into it and filled it in with dirt. When they were digging my septic system, they came across an old cistern. I knew there was one back here, but had forgotten exactly where it was. It was totally round like a ball and was made of bricks. The inside of it had been platered and was totally smooth. It was really a work of art as you don't see that kind of workmanship any more. There is an old mock orange bush where the corner of the cabin would have been. And I suspect it dates back to the mid- 1800's, but no proof of that. It still grows and blooms and some of the stems are as big as my wrist.
