No, this isn't a Julie Andrews song title! My husband and I were discussing our favorite things tonight at the dinner table. He likes watching the ducks on the pond; having breakfast muffins with our own honey; and being able to go "mess about" in the workshop when he wants. Those are some of his favorite things. I love to bake and smell fresh bread; go out in the morning and look at the sky and breathe the country air; listen to the contented clucking of the hens when they get a treat they especially like; and the scent of just-snuffed candles. I also enjoy getting on the 'net and seeing what my fellow Stewies have posted. Do you have favorite things, too?
Yes of course! Everyone has something favorite. For me, it's the process of creating, or rather inventing something! And so anything that makes this activity more streamlined, like 3D CAD software - Automatically becomes second nature. However there a bit more to it than just creating stuff endlessly... So what I really like even more then this, is to watch how some of my creations and inventions will stand the test of time. Aside from this, I also (specially in my childhood) really enjoyed talking with elderly people, or anyone who was 3 to 4 times older to me. Somehow, listening to their personal stories made it possible for me to visualize how the world's future will effect me (considering how they coped with the changing times)... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KzEm5bqgaB0 I also had an uncle (husband of my mother's elder sister). He had served in the British Indian Army during the second World War. So listening to his personal war time stories (while he was stationed at the Burma front, fighting the invading Japanese Army in the dense jungles) - Was so fascinating that I cannot express in words! So I till this day very fondly remember everything he told me of those times. So I guess remembering all that I was told, and continuing to carry all that wisdom with me - Which all those elders unselfishly shared with me - Is perhaps my most favorite thing in the world! 8) That, and anything associated with Star Trek!
Hmm Im always whining about things I hate (usually when Im at work lol), so it would do me some good to think about what I like! Hmm, lets see here... 1) I like huffing my cat- his fur always smells so clean! 2) Sitting outside when the weather is nice. Heck, I spent about 10 mins the other day perched under the tree in the backyard, just feeling the day even though it was chilly 3) Reading. Right now Ive got a story waiting for me on my kindle about a girl who finds out she's a Valkyrie. I enjoy fantasy novels 4) Ummm gardening! Wouldnt be here if I didnt like it haha Thats all my tired brain can think of right now ;D
Lots and lots of favorite things. Here are just a few, none of which are in any particular order: 1. My job and the kiddos I work with and the staff I share with. 2. Gardening, digging, planting, planning, cleaning outside spaces and just sitting out in the yard enjoying the variety of birds and wild life. 3. Falling asleep in my overstuffed chair. 4. Sunday morning ritual of watching the Sunday Morning Show while having a latte or breakfast sandwich with my sweetie 5. Going outside and viewing sunsets and moonrise with my sweetie. 6. Our 3 fur buddies that make us both laugh multiple times every day. 7. Listening to rain on a tin roof. I will go out and just sit and contemplate nothing in the shack and listen to the rain on the tin roof. 8. Gardening forums where I get to share one of my passions with a variety of interesting people. 9. Tribal art in the forms of pottery, rugs and bags. Most any good painting including a few we have had for years. Primitive art. These all make my heart sing and I don't know why. 10. Driving to work when the sun is coming up and coloring the sky. Eagles sitting or flying along with me along the Sound. I am being boring I am sure, so will quit, but there is soooo much to love and they are all my favorites. I just feel blessed most of the time. Life is good.
My favorite thing is the feeling of peace and contentment that I get from knowing my family is happy and healthy. I get the same feelings when I'm working in the garden or greenhouse on a warm sunny morning. The smell of fresh mowed lawns and hot bread from the oven.
I love feeding my birds every day and spending time watching them at the feeders. Gardening of course. Crafting. DIY. Coming here to 'see' you all. Crisp autumn days. The first signs of spring. So much more but my list would just go on and on.
Hi Jane. Wow a difficult one this - not because I cannot think of any but that I can think of so so many. These not in order and just a few. All and everything to do with gardening (as we al). Photography. Steam Locos and Engines. Walking and bird watching. Reading. Pottery and porcelain. One already mentioned - rain on roof or tent. Birdsong especially the Song Thrush. Great idea for a topic this. Syd.
I especially love early summer mornings, when its quiet and the birds are singing. I love the smell of the greenhouse. Sunset over the lake. The sound/smell of a long awaited rain. Puppies!
What a lovely topic! My absolute favourite thing is kissing my children and husband good morning. I feel so privileged because I have them. (mushy, eh?) Other than that: - Being with my horses. - Planting a longed-for plant. - Smelling spring in the air. - Watching birds or animals that think themselves unwatched. - Reading a book that's so good I don't want it to end. - Laugh at absolutely nothing at all.
Being able to look down at the grass and not up. A glass of wine at the end of the day. And the Irish stew.
So many little pleasures become favourite things over time. The smell of coffee, bacon, and fresh buttermilk biscuits after having slept a wee bit too long. Line dried clothes and bed clothes. The warmth of two dogs snuggling on either side of you on the FORBIDDEN couch.
I also agree sheets hung on the line. Good steak on the grill, Or catching a big catfish on my ugly stick pole. playing in the dirt. The first snow pea, or tomato . And many DIY projects.
-Standing in the front garden, listening to a murder of crows as they swoosh by on the wing....sends shivers up my spine but in a good way. -The first bite of a lusciously decadent dark chocolate dessert. -The word Gramma coming from either of my grandsons. -My youngest daughter sitting in the living room telling me all about her day at work. -My oldest daughter telling us that she needs some Mom and Ran' (her nickname for Randy) time. -Randy and I holding hands when we walk anywhere. -The first chill in the Autumn air, meaning the torture of summer is over. -The smell of the central heat coming on the first time in winter. -The sound of snow hitting the ground and the quietness of the world around it. -A full Moon.
Oh my,so many things I don't know where to start My lovely Husband Sharing companionable silences together Being greeted by B and N like I've been out for months even if the furthest away point is the front garden Listening to a robin singing before dawn as I get breakfast Sunrises and sunsets The smell of fresh bread and ground coffee Chasing bees around the garden trying to get a decent picture Rainbows The feel of new fabric The smell of new paperback books Sharing a meal and a glass or two of wine with friends Eating strawberries or tomatoes straight off the plants Watching a tide ebb and flow There must be more...
...too many to list but one of my very favourites is the smell of my puppy's paws, all the dogs we have had have had the same smell, sort of warm and earthy, and my garden of course.
