I've just been taking advantage of a cool morning before we once again head to temperatures in the low 80's and was in the greenhouse taking the side shoots off the tomatoes and I have to say that it is my favourite smell. I also like fresh compost and the smell after the first rain for a long time... Freshly ground coffee and onion and garlic being cooked in olive oil, freshly baked bread.... I'm sure there are more... Any favourites?
I love the smell of Peony's, Lilac's, Roses and Linden trees. Fresh coffee, onion and garlic, bacon, bread baking and chocolate cookies baking are some of my favorite smells too
Freshly ground coffee, freshly perked coffee, fresh baked bread, anything chocolate baking in the oven, Lavender, my popsicle Iris ladies in early Spring, Patchouli, Julia Child Roses, Clove, Jergens lotion, Spiced Rum, Basil.
Old fashioned roses, fresh bread, sautéed onions, chicken stock cooking down on the stove, sheets just off the line, the scent of rain coming, the smells of livestock the breeze carries at 7 a.m., and my husband's tee shirts--I adore that man even though his tee shirts don't smell exactly like livestock!
I enjoy most of the strong scented flowers, like roses (the ones that actually HAVE scent lol), lilacs, butterfly bush, oriental lilies. I like rain, early morning (that spicy-clean scent that comes from who knows where), cookies baking. I also love the smell of my man at certain times (sometimes he just plain stinks lol) Yesterday, I had our dog in the car and it took me a minute to figure out she was the source of the lake-scent I was smelling She'd had a bath earlier, but I wasnt expecting her to smell like a lake...I liked it
Oh how certain scents invoke memories and can dig up emotions. Freshly mowed lawn, coffee, popcorn, clean laundry, dinner cooking, Christmas smells, freesia, stocks, lilacs, roses, long awaited rain, my son and husband - for good or bad, and believe it or not - old fashioned gasoline as it reminds me of my father who has been gone a long time.
There's a certain brand of soap over here that always reminds me of my Grandma. I forgot to add the freshly laundered washing straight off the line, the nicotiana growing with the tomatoes in the greenhouse(long story-don't ask ). Minted new potatoes and sometimes the smell of damp dogs after they get caught in a shower.I could also add the smell of new fabric when I open parcels ready to make a quilt and the list could go on and on and on...
The smell of paving tar on a hot day from my city roots (DH always laughs at that one!). Sea salt at low tide(after being transplanted to the coast). The wonderful aroma of baked goods coming out of the oven.
