An amateur question... Some parts of my garden are not growing nearly as fast as other parts and I'm thinking the soil is probably not as rich in nutrients as it needs to be. I'm thinking I should probably do some fertilizing. Until I start my teaching job in August, thrift is the theme of life. I can pick up a bag of manure really cheap. Is that something I can use and maybe spread it out over the garden and water it in over time? I probably should mention. It's a vegetable garden.
Composted/rotted manure is the very best thing you could use. The plants use only what they need of the nutrients; the aged manure will not burn the plants; and it's organic. Just wash your vegetables thoroughly before eating (as if you didn't anyway!).
And water it after spreading on your garden. Water will leach out some nutrients and carry them to the plant roots. This is not necessary but it helps.
Thank you, Marlingardener and Mart. I went and got a bag of composted manure and side-dressed everything. There's a rainstorm approaching, so I'll let that soak it in.
