I was submitting my sightings to a butterfly website in Wisconsin and just walked out the door and there it was....I grabbed my camera which has a permanent spot on my end table in the Living room and got to snap a few pictures... Oh wow what a lovely butterfly. Are the black Swallowtails quite common where you are or are they pretty rare? Great shots - so glad you had your camera handy.
eileen...no they are not rare here. We have plenty of them, you just have to be ready when you see them. I miss quite a few butterfly pictures because they fly off when I step towards them.
Hi Sherry, either you have a good camera zoom or your "sneak up" abilities are top notch Lovely photos.
Frank...seriously, sometimes you have to sneak right up there. You have to watch your shadows so they don't move over them or they move. I try not to let my camera lens swing too...but some butterflys don't seem to mind movement at all. I had one that I had to keep following and I never did get a photo because it would go from flower to flower in fast mode. I would get ready to take the photo and he moved.
