Hey I have a beginner question. I bought six cherry tomatoes from my local home depot, and I had read in a gardening magazine to use 20-20-20 fertilizer. I didn't find it exactly so here is my question. Is 4-4-4 fertilizer the same as 20-20-20 in terms of reducible ratios? Or is it a scale (i.e. 0-30) Thanks
Hello and Welcome to the Stew Cherry Tomato! You'll find lots of helpful people around here. It depends on your soil when you fertalize, are you planting them in pots or in the ground? If you are using potting soil then you are correct 4-4-4 is the same as 20-20-20, I think it's based on how much fertalizer you are using higher numbers are more concentrated I believe. These numbers represent Nitrogen Phosphorus and Potassium and if you are planting in the ground you should check the levels your soil already has and only add what your soil needs rather than uping the imbalance. For example my soil was very low in nitrogen and high in the rest so I used a 28-4-4 fertilizer to level it all out better. Great thank you. Actually I am using pots because my patio doesn't have dirt, lol. I have two pots one size 17 in. diameter and one 15.5 in. diameter, both pretty deep. I am thinking to put 3 in each pot. Is that sufficient room? And I will need some bamboo stakes to help them out right? Also do they need a drainage tray...? Thanks
