Hi everyone, My corn crop is doing well, and the first ears will probably be ready to pick in a week or so. I've fertilize the plants twice so far, and I was wondering if I should fertilize again this close to harvest. Any advice would be appreciated :-D Tony
We fertilize once, when the corn is about 8" tall, with a 12-12-12 fertilizer and that is it. I would think you are just wasting $$ to fertilize it now.
I fertilize three times--at the time of planting and two more times when I earth them up as tyhe plants are growing. I do not fertilize after the ears have formed and the tassels have begun releasing their pollen. I concur with Carolyn 100% that you would be wasting money to fertilize now.
Caroline and Sjoerd, Thanks! That's exactly the information I was looking for. This forum is great! Tony
Not a problem, Tony, LOTS of people say Caroline. I still answer or respond And you are welcome for the info. Ask, and usually someone has and answer.
Carolyn, I too get called many versions of my name: Anthony, Tony, Tone, Ant, even "Mr. Z" (my last name starts with Z). I really don't mind what they call me, as long as they don't call me late for dinner (I know, it's an old joke ) Tony
I agree,, don`t waste fertilizer doing it now. After the ears start forming it will not help anything !!
