It was not the one Dooley had given so I took it to our county extention agent. He didn`t know either so he sent it to a friend at Texas A&M. Her opinion was not correct either. But another person who was in his office yesterday identified the plant as Indian Turnsole or Indian Heliotrope, class, heliotropium indicum. Its a member of the borage family and the leaves are used in some places to cure skin ulcers, as a poultice, and the extract from the leaves also used for conjunctivitis. Don`t plan on using it medicinally but its still a neat plant.

I have seen it before but the name totally eludes me! They are in my big garden and get about 3 ft. tall. The larger one is growing in my okra.

No, but I think I need to resize and make smaller. Back in a minute.

Mart, the photo is too far away for me. It just looks like a plant. I'm not sure what I am supposed to be looking at in the second photo. can you get one a little closer?

Making it larger would help too. They can be up to 500 pixels wide and still load just fine. I usually make mine 450 pixels on the longest side then let GIMP take care of making the other side to scale.

    new pics

500 is what I tried the first time. I will take a couple of closer shots this afternoon. You can click on the pic in the post and it enlarges it some but not much. When I go spray the watermelons I will take some closer pics.

I think you can see these well enough. They grow wild here but I think I have seen these or something similar as butterfly bushes. Its a pretty plant with dark green foilage and has bloomed during this drought with no water at all. I am thinking about transfering to flower bed !!

Mart, I am really sorry, but the only thing that I recognize is the okra. The others I have never seen. Wish I could help you.

In the second photo, it reminds me of mint for some reason.

I found a picture in a book called "Roadside Flowers of Texas" that look like the flowers on your plant.
It's called Blue-curls (Phacelia Congesta Hook.)It says it is a cinereous annual herb. There are a dozen or more species in Texas most often found forming carpets along highways and in open woods. Blooms appear from April to early summer. It doesn't say what it's good for or anything.

I can send you some !! Have several 2 inches to three feet !! It doesn`t seem to be invasive, just pops up here and there !! No idea if it has seed that can be harvested !!
Thanks Dooley for finding this one !!
