When I trimmed my shih Tzu hair this spring I stuck the hair on top of my arbor. It wasn't long before a finch discovered it and DH and I sat and watched it carefully pull out a strand at a time. DH finally had to get the camera when the hair started looking like it was a 'Fu Manchu' mustache!

I can only think that the bird is practicing nest building as the winter winds are not far behind. Oh! Was the picture taken in the springtime? If the bird is building now he better install a heater and some insulation in the nest. A snow shovel should also be on his list.

Isn't it nice t know that we're helping our feathered friends line their nests? I'm sure there were many nestlings that were grateful for your pets hair 2ofus. :-D

Very nice picture. I save my dog hair, after brushing, all Winter in a plastic bag to supply the birds in the Spring. It's a nice thing to do.

Great picture... when I brush my lab outdoors I leave the hair on the ground for the birds. I don't put chemicals on the dogs so the hair is perfect for nest building and it won't harm the birds at all. Whatever isn't picked up in a day, I dispose of. I can just see them in their nest resing or even staying warm ... I can keep them well supplied with what I brush out of my white lab...

Is it that time of year?
I guess I had better put out that pile of dryer lint I've been saving all summer!
I do use fabric softener though. Will that be a problem for these little guys?

Yes that is a great shot. Our house finches have made a come back this year. We must have over 25 of them at our feeders at one time. So happy to see them doing so good. :stew1:
