:?: I purchased a finch sock this week and have it hung outside my kitchen window. Is there a way to draw the finches and other small birds to it without also alerting the squirrels? Does anyone else use these?

PS I also included the herbs that are growing on the windowsill. These were all purchased recently in the produce section of my grocery store, thyme, sage, parsley and oregano. I've really enjoyed using them, and when they have a good looking basil on sale, I'll buy that too. I keep them in their original plastic pots and drop them into a clay pot for good looks. :D

Have you seen finches in the neighborhood? If so they will find it on their own. It's like if one bird finds it, then the word goes out and they al come for it! I have a huge bunch of Goldfinch and House Finch that come to my feeder every winter. And the only thing I feed is sunflower seeds mixed with cracked corn. The corn falls out or is taken out by the small birds and falls on the ground. Then the big birds, Dove, Bluejays and others come and eat it.

Hi Capt Kirk. Yes, there are finches everywhere. I have other feeders away from the house, but visible to all my back windows. I am hoping the small birds notice this sock too. I have a big platform feeder I use for cracked corn and sometimes black oil sunflower seeds. I also have a squirrel proof feeder with black oil sunflower seeds and finch seed. None of the feeders can keep away the squirrels though. On the squirrel proof feeder, they hang by their back feet and wiggle seeds out the holes where the feeder bar connects to the body of the feeder.
