There has been a gap in time since I began renewing the paths. Composted chips out, fresh chips in. The path directly in front of our little garden-house was the beginning today. A couple of nut cases were heading for the hills as we removed the old chips. I picked them up and deposited them in the compost bins. First we laid down a thin layer of the spar twigs and leaf bits which I hope will retard weed growth. Then piles of the chips to be spread evenly over the top. Here you can see a. Long stretch along the western aspect of the garden, reaching from the compost bin, through the arch and on to the main path outside the garden. We were well chuffed with our efforts. We did it in five days. Of course we could have probably done it in one full day, but this year we were restraining and pacing ourselves for a change. It paid off in terms of not getting stiff and painful muscles. Also the weather played a role too, to be fair. The thing is, now thst the cosmetic bit has been sorted, I can get on with more serious cleaning up. Ach, it was cold and clammy, or “water- cold” as we say, today and I was glad to be heading home for tea and bikkies. However, I have to show you this wonderful sight— The first snowdrops in my lottie. I am proud of them, but there were daffs blooming on the dike which on which we live last week already. Spring is on its way, isn’ t it.
Looking good Sjoerd! This is the kind of job I wish I could be doing this time of year. Its just too cold and snowy!
