We had our first asparagus of the season for dinner tonight. With some charcoal grilled chicken and corn fritters, the first asparagus was just perfect!
I had weeded, fertilized, and mulched our asparagus bed in January, and the care seems to have paid off. My husband didn't like "mossy logs" until he tasted fresh asparagus. Now we have lively discussions over who gets the last spear!

Nothing like the first asparagus of the year. We haunt a farm till the first grass is in.

Congrats on the first fresh asparagus....I wasn't aware that it would grow very well down here.
I love asparagus and I have tried the fresh cooked by a few different people but since I grew up on the canned variety nothing else tastes as good to me. ;)

Yum, delicious. I don't grow it on the plot. I tried but it didn't thrive so I wait until the local farms have it in. Mossy logs...hehehehhee.

Wow! They're in....Fresh asparagus is only something we can dream of here.
It is funny how fresh, self-grown veg can change someone's mind, isn't it?
That little story reveals an aspect of the essence of gardening and why people want to do it, I think.
Congrats on the first harvest and on a conversion. hahaha.

Mmm...sounds delicious! I can't wait until my asparagus is ready. I have a small patch in my garden, but it grows wild up and down the roads here. There are people who drive up and down the roads picking it so I make sure I beat them to it :D
