and I've got a bazillion things planned to do. All outside of course. Just as the dawn chorus was fading, and I was finishing my third cup of coffee, a flash of lightning, and then thunder. Sheets of rain that lasted for 20 minutes. The weather is supposed to be over for the day..... Delays, delays, delays. Tomato's, peppers, and cabbage will be in the ground TODAY! Beans and corn too! Cor Blimey, (for my English compatriots) Buckets I say, buckets! That radar doesn't show it either! Drawing and quartering of meteorologists should be permitted by law!
Typical isn't it? You have a vacation and a list of things to do outdoors an then the weather lets you down! I hope it clears up soon for you so that you can get started on all those jobs in the garden.
This is SO annoying! I experience a similar issue a lot of weekends...I so look forward to them so that I can get to all the garden things I've planned, and then BAM!!! Mother Nature decides to throw a hissy fit! I hope your vacation is long enough that you have time to play catchup!
That is so infuriatingly typical! I have sort of given up on weather forecasters. I just take what I hear and see with a grain of salt...I use it more as a guideline of possibility that the gospel.
Well FBG, at least your weather forecaster didn't tell you "You never know when it will rain" as ours did one evening. Of course, he was the same guy that told everyone to wear something under their coat. Did he think we were an audience of flashers? Vacations are for fun, not buckets of rain. However, your plants and seeds will appreciate the moisture. Have fun, don't overwork, and at the end of the day you can feel you have really accomplished something.
Well now, it has rained just enough to make it too muddy to work in the garden. Thunder in the distance. Indoor projects will be done today I guess.
Well as the old saying goes: The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry. Let's hope tomorrow it dries up for you.
The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry. Shucks,, I thought that was from the Gardeners Journal ? :-D
It seems like a delayed start for a lot of us this season. Sorry, FBG for your plans going awry. I've given up on "meteorologists" and read the maps and sky myself, only using their forecasts as vague guidelines. Thankfully, the forecast is pretty close and summer weather is easier for me to read than the winter. Saturday, I read that the chance of rain would be in the upper 40% range in the late afternoon. After raining all night, we had to wait until late morning/early afternoon for the ground to dry a bit and start working on the garden. We got out there as soon as we could and tried to mend the fence and cut some sod. I watched the sky as 15:00 came and went. My other half, using an electric circular saw as 15:30 came, watched me carefully as I watched the sky and started moving faster. "We have 20 minutes." When the 20 minutes was passed, we packed everything up. No sooner did we get everything inside, a rumble of thunder and a couple drops of rain... Roll up the extension cord in the house and watch the sky turn green to the west-northwest. 16:00 end of our day working in the garden.
Sorry about that rain putting a damper on your vacation plans. Isn't it funny that we always get rain when we don't want or need it?
I got tomato's, cabbage, and pepper's in yesterday. Rain this early am. 1 and 1/2 inches. I'll be trying to get beans, corn, and kohlrabi in this afternoon. Now to add another self to one of the bedroom closets.
