OK, we in Pakistan have had the first female Prime Minister in the entire Muslim world, as well as the first female civilian aviators, and now the first female combat pilots of the air force too... But it was damn shocking to learn that we now have the first female firefighter in all of Asia too?

Not even in Japan, nor in South Korea, or China, or in Indonesia and Malaysia, and neither in any of the Central Asian Republics - There wasn't a single lady firefighter anywhere in history???

So now I'm also wondering about what's the ratio of women firefighters in North America and Europe? Anybody got an idea?

I don't know, it just seems so strange that I have to share it here! :D I honestly was thinking that there must have been hundreds if not thousands in Asia - Just like the lady police officers and paramedics we seen everywhere...

I've never heard of a female firefighter in my country either S-H. That's an interesting statistic.

We have women who are firefighters here but I don't know the percentage compared to men. Many people respond better to women when they are in dangerous situations and will be calmer if there is a woman around to help them.

We do have women firefighters here but I don't know the percentage either. I did read that they have to pass tests to prove that they can do the job, such as be strong enough to carry a person out of a building or down a ladder.

According to the National Fire Protection Association, fewer than 4% of the U.S. firefighters are women.

2ofus makes an excellent point! Perhaps this is the only reason why majority of woman can easily function as competent officers in law enforcement, or as paramedics, or even in the military - But not so much when it comes to firefighting, (as one needs to be physically strong)...

However, what's even stranger is that Pakistani woman (specially when it comes to relationships), are world renowned for being experts at starting fires! Yet this one seems to be doing the exact opposite! So this lady has actually broken away from the norm twice!!! :smt044  :snicker:
