I don't get too many moths around during the day so this one was a nice surprise. A Small Magpie Moth, Eurrhypara hortulata.

I've only seen a few tiny moths flitting about at dusk.
I'm getting seriously worried about the lack of insect life.

    So far I've only seen:

    1 red damselfly.
A two or three bumble bees.
    2 wasps.
2 Green veined white butterflies and one small tortoiseshell.
    A few hover flies.
Of course the midges are out but not nearly as many as usual.
Our bitterly cold spring seems to have really affected numbers this year.

We have lots of bees etc flying about the garden. I haven't done much insect photography this year, I should get going I guess.

While we have a few moths that flit around the light at night, the daytime variety remains elusive. Perhaps too much rain. However!! I made a test terrarium to try various native plants and the other day I noticed movement inside the enclosed container. Moths! Little white moths, nothing spectacular but interesting that they are there. I counted 4 moths about a half inch long. Since the container is closed they will remain there. Time will tell.
