Got my first mater growing. It's about the size of a large marble and it's on the Better Boy plant. The first blooms I had started to get maters, but then they fell off from all the rain we had. Won't be long now and I'll be eating fresh maters! Last summer we ate so many BLT sandwiches, we went through about 2 hogs worth of bacon!
You're east of me a bit (75 miles?). I've got 5 blooms on one Beafsteak, a few on a couple of Mortgage Lifters, and nothing on the Amish Paste or Mr. Stripey's. The missus (what doesn't know beans about gardening, but cans with the best of them) to be ready around the 15th of July for beans and maters! BLT's, AND grilled ChickenLT's(with onion, can't forget the mayo[not that miracle whip stuff]) Why am I hungry so suddenly?
YUM is all I can add. Congratulations Captain and FBG. It's always great to see the first tomatoes starting. :-D
My 'matoes dont even have flowers yet *sigh* oh well, they were tiny when I bought em, so they do have some catching up to do
We haven't even got ours in the ground yet. Our garden spot is too wet yet for much of anything. Guess we better get them potted and on the back deck like we did last year.
waaaay cooool! In March was in Arizona caring for my grandkids while their Mom was in the hospital. I bought them each a tomato plant at walmart($.50 cents) Who can pass up a $.50 cent plant???? boght 3 buckets at the dollar store and some potting soil. They planted the plants as a project one day. Grand daughter (age 4)drowned her tomato plant the first day. I think I pulled hers out of the bottom of the pot 3 times that first day. It gave up. So I gave her zinnia seeds. The 2 boys harvested their first tomatoes 2 days ago! They were so excited. And it taught them that they can grow their own veggies. GRand daughter has a pot full of blooming zinnias too. So she's excited! My son sent me their pictures of their harvest and some really big smiles! Success!!!
