Not a great picture at all of a snow bunting, but it was a long way away and its not a big bird. I sent it in to the Rare Bird Alert today and they said it is the first sighting this year. In the Christmas bird count last year, none were spotted out of the 140 species recorded. It is the first I have seen, wish I had some better pictures.

Great find! That photo is quite clear--better than most could have done at that distance. Perhaps the snow buntings will honor you with their presence again.

Your photograph is excellent and better than I have ever managed to achieve.
I have seen very few Snow Buntings for myself but know that the best time to see them is in winter on coastal sites in Scotland or in eastern England sometimes as far south as Kent.
They are most often seen arriving from late September and leaving again in February and March. We do have 70 to 100 pairs that stay and breed in the UK.
Wintering numbers are around 10,000 to 15,000 individuals.

A rare sighting, how excited you must be. The picture looks pretty good to me...I know when I have the birds/critter in my camera lens I get nervous and can't hold as still as I would like too...... I hope I get over that sometime soon.

It's such a pretty bird. I have a feeling I've seen that bird before but it might be a close cousin that like it here.
