This is the first sunflower this year. I didn't even plant it. We feed the birds in the front yard by the fence and this past winter there were so many birds we started scattering seeds in the one long flower bed. So, what came up in the spring but sunflowers. We let them grow. This is the first one to bloom. It's about four feet high and has a blossom about 4 to 5 inches across. Wait until the seeds start to form and the birds discover it. Others are still pretty small. First sunflower this year and I didn't plant it. ( photo / image / picture from dooley's Garden ) dooley
Hi Dooley,..what a bonus from feeding the birds,..looks like nature and your thoughtfulness are rewarding you,..it looks a fairly sturdy Sunflower.
I planted a few sunflower seeds this spring. Two are growing.... well... barely! They are no more than 4-5 inches tall. Now the one that the birds planted... it's doing great! Instead of buying sunflower seeds to plant next year, I'm just going to grab some out of the bird food. So happy your's is doing so well. The birds will be happy too.
