I have the season's first wood fire going this morning. It got down to 23 deg F. so I went ahead and lit one off. Sure feels nice and toasty warm!
Captain -feels good doesn't it. Been burning wood past 2 weeks.Got down to 14 * other am. and windy.Figure got enough fire wood for 3 years.
Capt, you really held out down there, huh? we have been burning since the cold snap in Oct. to keep the greenhouse from freezing off. Last night I didn't start the fire out there. I cut all the strings for the tomatoes and covered them and the peppers with a row cover. Today I am happy to see they look good still. I thought maybe they would look bad as cold as it got last night. I hate to let the last of the tomatoes die. They are still "garden" flavored.
I burn wood in my fireplace in the dining room, during the day for almost 3 weeks now and the pellet stove runs in the living room, for a month now. I may not love the Winter but I love to use my two extra heat sources. Because of them we don't use our house furnace much at all.
Even down here in Texas we generally have a fire in the morning unless we are planning on going out somewhere. We don't leave a fire when we aren't here. We had one last evening because we went and did errands in the morning and the house was cold. We don't use a furnace at all. We can supplement with an electric heater if the stove can't handle the job. dooley
If it's above 30 deg. I use the Ede-Pure heater in the living room. Below that I use the wood burner. The Eden -Pure dosn't use as much electric as the baseboard heaters do.
Capt Kirk, Had to go out and Google that. Boy that looks nice. So it just plugs in and goes? You can move it around the room if you want?? I like that....Can I talk you into adding a picture of it sitting in the room?
Barb, here is a pic of it. You can get an idea of how big it is from the end table that it is next to. It is about 24 inches long and only about 12 inches wide. It uses an infared light bulb as a heat source so there is no danger of a fire. It is made in Akron, Ohio too. Mine is the most expensive one they have about $500 two years ago, but are a little cheaper now. It came with a 5 year warranty. Last spring I had to send it back as the bulb stopped working and I had it back in 5 days. They even paid for the shipping both ways.
Wow, that's nice. I didn't have that picture in mind. You even have a rug underneath it.... cool I use a Parolano,sp?, you know, about 6X6 little thing and the electric blanket for about half hour before bedtime and then we turn them off. It's ok right now but your heater would be much better. It's not that we cant afford it but I like to watch our spendings. I would rather spend our money on really good junk. Our electric bill is pretty low and our fuel for our house is very very low per year and until we start our greenhouse furnace, we spend very little on it, but when we turn the heat on the furnace we sure do spend.....It's ok for we don't spend much in other departments. Bet my sister could use one like yours in her house. She is alone and only needs to heat a small space in the evening for a few hours. She sleeps with no heat on at night. Will be getting something for her and us. Thanks.
It does have a built in thermostat. We set ours on #4 at night and it keeps the room at 69 or 70. It does not use much electricity either. The first winter we used it, our electric bill only went up a couple of dollars a month, maybe $10 at the most.
I have wood in a basket next to our wood burning stove in the living room, but we haven't lit the stove yet. We usually just use it evenings, more to warm our souls than warm our bodies. There are few things more comforting than a wood fire.
Well, It's official. Santa's little helper will be getting one of these for a special sister. She is only at home for a couple of hours in the evenings as she is a single woman who works many hours. She has been wanting something to heat her living room while she is in it. She was looking for a kerosene heater. Looking out for her safety and her electric bill "Santa" has decided this fits the bill. Thank you, Capt Kirk, for helping "Santa" make such difficult decisions.
We also have enda-pure heater in our heater in our up-stair bed room. One of my customer has couple. I washed back off Full of cat hair
