Now, we got to Flagstaff. We drove past the library so of course, we had to stop and visit and we did take a few pictures but I haven't resized them yet. We went to visit the train station and took a few pictures of there and around Main Street which is the Old Route 66. First, the train station. We've made quite a few trips in and out in the last 30 years. The next picture is an interesting bit of history. Flagstaff was basically established for two reasons. One, a logging town and two, a ranching town. This big wheel thingie had to do with logging. I copied the blurb on the sign. Picture first. The lumberjack felled the large trees and cut them into managable lengths. The wheels were backed over the logs and the horses were disconnected. The tongue was tilted up and a chain was run under the logs and attached to hooks on top of the axle. As the tongue was pulled back down it lifted the logs off the ground. A chain was then wrapped around the front of the logs and the tongue to prevent the tongue from flipping back up. The horses were then reconnected and the logs were pulled to the railhead. Next, a look down the Main Street and a couple of the old buildings. Now, there is one more picture taken in Flagstaff. It is for Frank. This is where we stopped for lunch. DR says it represented itself as an Irish pub but the ceilings were too high. You couldn't catch a dart as it went past. He samples the Bushmill's Irish Whiskey. I passed and had diet coke. We each had a form of hamburger, giant ones. Chance had leftovers for her supper. Dooley
Love the wheel Dooley. It massive! Quite a novel way of transporting the logs as well. I believe the Irish have one of the more popular 'franchises' in the world in the form of the Irish pub. There's is not a place in the world you can go to without finding one.
Thanks for the pics Dooley. The train station is a beauty. I love old buildings, those are some nice ones. In Ponchatoula, Louisiana they turned the old train station into vendor booths where people sell handmade items.
So THATS what flagstaff looks like! Always been curious about it. The train station caught me off guard, though. I swear it looks exactly like the one in my home town in SW Washington. Seriously like it! Weird, speaking of coincidences!
I enjoyed the stroll down the streets of Flagstaff I'm like Critter Painter always wondered what it looked like .Enjoyed the tour Doolet.Tell DR that Iris Whiskey might creep up on him .I do love it in coffee or use to anyway.
