This is the retaining wall that we put in last fall. And this is what we have done with it this spring.

The day lillies by the driveway.

And the lillies by the front deck.

The cat even managed to get in the first picture. He was following me around while I took the pics.

The racoons got into the lower bed and threw out some of the mulch. I need to clean that up and put some more mulch in it. Also I will put some of it around the daylillys by the drive. I really like the way the black mulch makes the colors pop out.

I almost missed Kitty till you pointed him out!
That wall and bed are so pretty... you're right about the black mulch bringing out the color of the plants, and the stonework too. Your driveway bed looks really natural, very pretty.

The finished result is lovely! :D You've been busy, haven't you? Tell kitty she has to find a way to chase the racoons, can't have any of that.

The black mulch looks great CK. The plants stand out beautifully against it.

Can I ask a question please? Are you ever bothered by Red Lily Beetles on your lilies? I had never seen them until two years ago and now I have a real job trying to get rid of the little blighters. :(

I don't have problems with bugs of any kind on the lillys. But I can't keep a rose because of the Japanese Beetles, they decimate the bloom. And what is the point of growing them if you can't enjoy the bloom?

Ok you have seen the daylilly bed without the black mulch. Here it is with it. Big difference!
