The garden is full of flowers now and it's such a pleasure to wade through the overgrown paths and inspect and smell them. The flower garden's not turning out to be too bad afterall. Crocosmia 'Lucifer' Phlox paniculata Phlox paniculata with Phlox 'Lilac Time' Clematis cirrhosa 'Freckles' Buddleia
Again 'wow'. I love how bright your colors are. Don't think I've ever seen a clematis of that kind or color but its very pretty. Your Buddleia, is it a type of butterfly bush? Its such a deep color of purple-very nice. Thanks for sharing.
yes Petunia, it is a butterfly bush. I liked that deep, rich colour as well. And that little Clematis is one that I have not seen before or after I bought it. it's quite hardy and keeps some leaves throughout the winter. It blooms twice a year, which I like very much.
Not too bad? Your garden is a veritable paradise of color. I hope mine looks a fraction of what yours is next season when all the new plants are acclimated and established. What is great is that a garden is never finished -right? Gardengater
Too right, Gardengater! Mine is never the same two years in a row. Well some is the same...but even THOSE get moved-around from time to time. I'll bet your's looks just as good...maybe even better--just you wait and see.
Oh Sjoerd, you've shown all of my favorites! I still haven't gotten any new Crocosmia bulbs yet, but I will for next year. (Oh WHY did I leave mine at the old house???)
Oh darn!...That was a shame that you left them. Remember, if you can't find any...I'll be happy to send you some.
Oh my everything is just so beautiful that I couldn't pick a favourite from amongst them. Lucifers, phlox, clematis and buddleia not to mention the hollyhocks - just gorgeous.
You never cease to amaze me with your beautiful flowers. The buddleia is wonderful. The crocosmia is pretty and if you let some go to seed the pods are great in flower arrangements.
Lovely! I've never seen Clematis 'Freckles' before. Do you happen to know what how cold of zone it can handle?
CAJUNBELLE: What a good idea. I've never done that. I shall try and remember that this fall. Thanks for the tip. PIANOLADY: I got them from here: http://plants.thompson-morgan.com/product/2138/1 but they offer no indication of their tolerance limits in terms of the 'zones'. However I have seen that they are suited to zones (7)8-11. I do not know what kinds of winters you get there in iowa, but the first couple of years I'd protect the plants with fleece just to be sure. Once they are established, this may not be necessary, except when the forecasts are 'severe'.
I don't know what to say. My Crocosmia-Emily McKenize hasn't started blooming yet, hope it looks half as gorgeous as the Lucifer. I really have to get some Phlox next year. My garden is suffering so from the lack of rain. So I will look at your pictures and lust.
Just beautiful...I have a butterfly bush the same color. I love it..haven't seen a butterfly on it because we do not have many this summer so far. Very disappointing not to have all the regular varietys around.I think they froze out in the spring..
What a shame, Sherry--do you reckon they will eventually show-up? We get butterflies on the ones here...but very few. There just aren't many different sorts here in West-Friesland. You guys have quite a vareity of butterflies and moths there. It's amazing.
