Thanks to the rotten wet, swamp like conditions, I am indoors sowing seeds everywhere! Here are some flowers I have sown for this coming year. Coleus Purple Bell vine sweetpeas mecanopsis Astrantia, shaggy clematis, korean beauty anchusa salpiglossis white foxgloves angel trumpets, blackcurrant swirl. Are you sowing any flowers yet?
Oops, I saw these too late...after I had posted my other response. These are some nice sorts here. Did you get one of those mixed salpinglosis packs from Thompsons? I tried one of those one year and was well chuffed with the results. I really should do them again sometime.
I did sjoerd, I have never grown them before and I am hoping to get an injection of colour into the garden so thought, why not.
Re. Flowers grown today I am trying Gazania. The photo on the package looked so nice I could not resist them.
Nope, I'm not sowing anything before April. We are rarely able to plant stuff out before mid-May, so it's no use pushing our luck. I'm glad gardeners elsewhere have started their spring chores, though.
It's still early for planting here, but I couldn't help myself the other day - bad case of the winter "blahs". I sowed the rest of last years Datura :Black Current Swirl" seeds. Hopefully they will grow.
We have sown some petunia seeds that have poked their heads through, wow the seeds were tiny, we have also prematurely set some sunflowers going as well as the veg. The verbena and fuschias and strawberrys we bought are doing well though the Coleus seems to be taking more time, I bought a tray of 30 pansy's from Homebase the other day so they are going to be potted soon but its a bit too cold to pot them outside just yet. Come on spring im ready
seeds Hi Ej this is Margie I bought about 20 different packets of seeds today I love the giant Zinnias, bachelor buttons, the blue boy color and asters, cosmos, and marigolds, And of course my wildflowers,Im going to have flowers everywhere.Did you say you started yours today? Well Margie, it is still very cold here with snow forecast, so I have started mine off indoors in my conservatory. Once they germinate I will start to move the hardier ones out into my greenhouse so they can grow nice and stocky, but the more tender plants will stay in the conservatory until the warmer weather comes. I love cosmos and it grows wild on my allotment as I sowed a row a couple of years ago, and of course, it set seed everywhere, but I leave it where it appears. With such delicate ferny foliage it really doesn't interfere with any of my veggies and the flowers are a lovely bonus.
You go girl! I sowed some white hollyhocks, yellow and purple Datura. I plan to start many more as soon as my heat mats come - today I hope!
I didn't get to see any blooms from them last year (you may remember tainted water killed many of my potted plants last September) This is the closest I came to seeing a bloom ( photo / image / picture from Netty's Garden )
