I have not tried this, but I have had people email me that this really works. Put 4 or 5 copper pennies in a Zip lock bag and fill with water. Zip it closed and then hang it near the door or open window of the room that you do not want flies in. Nobody knows how or why this works, just that it works. They say it is great for patio areas too. Once the weather warms up, I am trying this. They say it works for wasps too.

This begs a summer outdoor experiment. Take the bag put the pennies in and fill it with water then we need one more step. Rub the outside of the bag with fish and put it outside. See if it attracts flies. If it does do they stay or fly away?

I've never seen it with pennies inside, but my ma-in-law always had bags hanging on the porch. I believe the theory is that the fly sees it's reflection in the water and is frightened away because it looks so large! Whatever it does.... it does work pretty good.
