Sometimes I like the leaves more than the blossoms. Nasturtium "Alaska". No blossoms yet but with those leaves, I don't mind. Blue Eucalyptus. This was easier from seen than I thought. Pelargonium "Mrs Pollack". Heirloom. I've overwintered this plant for nearly twenty years. This variety dates to 1868! Jacobea maritima, Dusty Miller "Silver Dust". Second year from seed. These were easier to grow from seeds, than I expected. Chives. I like the look as much as the taste. Kalanchoe. Probably needs some tidying up. It's around four years old. Another Pelargonium. This Pelargonium's leaves aren't variegated or zonal but they have an interesting crinkled look. Unfortunately, the leaves aren't fragrant. These get their shape as hybrids between zonal and ivy leaved species. Anyway, I thought I'd share some of the plant's whose foliage I like. How about yours?
I agree, as foliage stays for the entire year, (most of the times). While flowers only bloom once a year when in season.
Daniel I like your idea … A thread with only variegated foliage. Everyone can show off your beautiful variegated foliage… Plants with variegated and interesting colorful foliage in planters or gardens… Variegated garden hostas, dusty millers, variegated dogwood ‘red twig’. Heucheras Americana ‘Dales Strain’ Coleus ‘King Cong’ Fishwort houttuynia cordata ‘Chameleon’ Acer tegmentosum ‘White Tigress’ Musa acuminata ‘Red Dacca’. Solanum taburoso ‘Sweet Caroline’
Daniel—This is such an excellent thread. It spotlights such an important aspect of what folks grow and why…and what excellent foto choices you have used to illustrate foliage. Everyone else's foliage looks smashing as well.
I agree with everyone and everything that has been said. I'm a great foliage fan too. What a great thread this will be. Off to take some pics now too
What an exquisite array of the various foliage types. When creating my beds and areas I also think about seasonal views. Whether I need to add evergreen varieties. I love texture and color in my perennial gardens. Thank you everyone for sharing your beautiful plants and gardens. Good job @Daniel W
Wow, lots of beautiful foliage. This year I tried to grow some caladiums, but the climate here is too cool.
\ @Daniel W Thank you . I was hoping to see more of your foliage pics. And encourage other talented Grdeners here to post all their foliage pics. Foliage is the backbone of many gardens. Even veggie foliage can be have interesting shapes and colorful. Caladiums have a wide variation of patterns and color of foliage and take forever to send up foliage if not kept in a warm bright spot and started by March in my zone.
This is my Devil's Ivy, stays green like this with lemon yellow streaks for the entire year in my climate. And doesn't require any maintenance.
