Today was the third pick-up this season and the donations have been stedily growing: The first week=1 crate, the second week= 2 crates and this, the third week= 4 crates full of fresh veg for the people. I'm pretty proud of my co-gardners here that's why I had to show this generous collection. I am also very pleased to see that some folks are cleaning their give-away veg and organizing them neatly. Just because this veg is going to less fortunate folk does not mean that it can be second rate veg or be handed in sloppy and dirty. A big "WELL DONE" to all those who donated.
That is fantastic Sjoerd. What a lovely generous bunch of gardeners you are. I can imagine that the food bank is incredibly grateful for such lovely fresh produce. I agree, a big well done. We are all very proud of you.
I think the gardeners at your allotment complex are a wonderful bunch of very special people. I hope allotment holders at other complexes will fallow in your stead and contrubute to the food bank too.
This warms my heart.... What better thing in the world is there than feeding people beautiful fresh produce?? You may never know how it touches the people you are feeding but it will.
Sjoerd, Bless your hearts! What a wonderful and generous bunch you all are. I'm sure it will be greatly appreciated...
'Well done' to you! The produce looks beautiful and I know every delicious bite will be greatly appreciated.
Now, that looks fantastic. I remember a chap from Holland last year, tearing at his hair and pushing courgettes on bus drivers. Now look at what you've achieved. Well done to all contributors.
Thank you all so much for your nice words and encouragment. You are right, Daisy--I will never know what the folks think of the food...but the Food Bank have invited us down to see their operation in progress on a friday (that's when they disperse the food). I am going to try and get down ther sometime in the coming weeks. I would like to take some pictures of their storage place and how they stall the stuff out. The fresh veg is only a very small part of what they giove. They make up boxes with day-old bread and canned food primarily. The fresh veg is there for those who want it, and not everyone does. They give it out, based upon the size of the family that wants it...this way more folks can get something. It will be interesting to see how it goes there. I hope that other Lottie complexes will follow suit too. They may need a little letter from us to get them going, though. As of now, we are the only allotment complex giving anything. That does need to be changed. I think that it is mostly a case of gardners not actually thinking of the Food Bank as a possibility for their extra food. Heh heh heh...Droopy, you don't forget a thing, do you. Thanks again, all.
awesome job sjoerd! in the states here, we have a thing called 'grow a row for the hungry' or something like that, where all the gardeners grow a row of food for the food banks in their towns/cities/counties. it really helps all around. good for you and your fellow gardeners...keep the pics coming!
